If you are successful and achieve fame; however, you sold your soul to the devil to do that... compromised your integrity, or worse, will you be able to look yourself in the mirror.
If you only listen to people who tell you what you want to hear, you will never get where you want to go. In other words, if you are in a position of power or authority, and your subordinates, peers and friends/family are afraid to tell you the truth, you are not getting the feedback and advice needed to be successful. Listen to others and learn from others, but choose your own path.
Effective leaders are "starters" who fuel the actions of those who are more the "doers". This usually means the leader is more driven, assertive, influential and more prone to lead and take charge. Being the captain on the bridge vs. the execution person does not give license to silence wellintended advice from others.
Successful and happy leaders invoke their authority very sparingly. The best leaders use the power they have earned to create a climate of trust, cooperation and accomplishment in which people are positively motivated. The best way to increase your personal power is to seek additional responsibility. The amount of responsibility you take is related directly to the amount of power and influence you possess.
